Becoming a professional beat maker used to take years. But thanks to the Internet, you can download beat making software and easily create your own music no matter what genre you enjoy. There are two big names in the industry today;
Both companies have pros and cons about their products, and we reviewed them in order to help you figure out which one to purchase. After all, a little research goes a long way in the beat making world. Choosing the wrong software could cost you weeks or even months of production.
Let’s take a look at what each one has to offer:
DUBTurbo
One of the most important things we found during our initial research was the DUBTurbo video on the homepage. We strongly recommend taking 3 minutes and looking it over. Their NEW Version 2.0 offers several upgrades, teaches you how to play piano keys, structure the proper bars, edit the mix master in any genre, and various other benefits.
DUBTurbo includes 3 core modules:
- DT Sequencer. This module features tons of shortcuts to maneuver around and produce beats FAST. The panel is extremely easy to use and makes it easy to transition into other software later in your career.
- DT Drum Machine Panel. Every pad on the DT Drum panel has a keyboard trigger (going 1-10 (zero) moving up the keyboard) so you can make beats on a standard keyboard just like you were on a MPC! This feature is AWESOME and comes highly recommended.
- 4 Octave Sampling Keyboard. Two of the four octaves are controlled directly on your keyword (your computer keyboard). That’s right, there’s NO NEED for MIDI Controllers anymore, ONLY DUBTurbo includes this feature. This beat making software gives you everything from bass, to stabs, pianos, saxes, top shelf samples (to insure the quality of every beat your produce), and bells.
DUBTurbo can look like a little complex for a beginner. Everything seems to come at you so fast it’s a bit overwhelming.
However, throughout the video they explain how you can make your own beats with ease, and even go from an idea to speakers in under 10 minutes.
Another benefit we found is being able to make the beats with your keyboard. It doesn’t matter what kind you own, because they are all compatible. If you look at the top of their website you will also see compatibility with MAC, PC, iPad, iPhone, Online (IE and Firefox), or even the ability to install.
If you haven’t made beats before then make sure to click the “continue” button after the video is over. DUBTurbo talks about the easiest approach for beginners, why you shouldn’t be intimidated, and how it can be affordable. In fact, right now they are offering a 75% off deal, but we have no idea how long that will last.
Sonic Producer
When you visit the Sonic Producer site their approach is a little bit different. Instead of telling you there is an endless supply of training videos, there is one right on the home page. It lasts about 5 minutes and shows you how to use their software.
You will also have some sample beats available (3), as well a list of lessons available in the member’s section. You can learn about the overall Logic, ProTools, software instruments, keyboards, and various other components of beat making.
If you want a challenge, Sonic Producer holds a contest where you can make some of your best beats and have a chance to win $500. There are also MP3 export capabilities.
One thing we did notice about Sonic Producer is their price is identical to DUBTurbo, even without a 75% discount. Some people believe this means you get more with DUBTurbo, but others think it’s just a way to entice you. We can’t make the decision for you, but it’s highly recommended you look at both companies and figure out the best approach for you and your beat making skills.
